Acting Pittsburgh Police Chief Christopher Ragland has withdrawn his name from the nomination process, and will not become the permanent bureau police chief, sources have told KDKA-TV. Ragland has decided to leave the bureau altogether.

Mayor Ed Gainey’s nomination for Pittsburgh’s next police chief has withdrawn his name from consideration and is leaving the force effective immediately.

Sources close to the process told us that Ragland was getting pressure from city council members about who he should promote to be his assistant chief.
