Despite sleep experts -- and the president -- wanting to eliminate time changes, daylight saving time is about to begin again.

For the past four months, we’ve been on standard time. But overnight Saturday, we’ll turn our clocks ahead one hour at 2 a.m., effectively making it 3 a.m. (So don’t schedule any important meetings at 2:30 a.m., because that time won’t exist Sunday — and is not a great time for a meeting, anyway).

This Sunday most of us will lose an hour of sleep as we set our clocks one hour ahead to Daylight Saving Time (DST). There’s a movement afoot to do away with DST, a notion that has gained favor with President Trump and Elon Musk.

Daylight saving time is near -- March 9 if your state participates -- and we prepare to spring forward with all the clock adjusting that requires. While we may lose an hour of sleep, entering DST does come with advantages, like an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day -- and a lower risk of burglaries.

Those are the places under U.S. jurisdiction that do not observe the manifest folly of Daylight Saving Time, and will be leaving their clocks and watches exactly as they are when the rest of us are dialing ours an hour forward on Sun.

Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2 a.m. Your smartphone and computer should automatically adjust to the time change, but you will need to manually advance other clocks by an hour.
