Gennaro Gattuso has been named Italy coach and is tasked with reviving the country’s already-flagging World Cup qualifying hopes.

Gennaro Gattuso was named as the new Italy coach on Sunday. The 2006 World Cup winner will hope to lead the struggling Squadra Azzurra to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Gennaro Gattuso will be presented as the new Italy coach with a press conference at Rome's Hotel Parco dei Principi on Thursday after the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) announced on Sunday that the former midfielder had been given the keys of the national team.
