Tropical Storm Iona became the first named storm of the 2025 hurricane season in the Central Pacific on Sunday evening local time. The storm was located over the ocean southeast of Hawaii, with winds near the center of around 50 miles per hour.
The National Hurricane Center said Monday, July 28, it is keeping tabs on four systems in the Pacific Ocean, including Tropical Storm Iona.
HONOLULU (AP) — Iona strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane several hundred miles south-southeast of Hawaii, but poses no threat to the islands, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Tuesday.
