The California Department of Justice has opened an investigation into the fatal shooting by law enforcement of a former Sacramento County sheriff's deputy, the state agency said Wednesday.

Mar Aris Untalan Morales, 11, was allegedly stabbed to death by his father, who the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reportedly fired for using illicit drugs.
