Emmy-nominated “Glow” star Betty Gilpin will take over as Mary from Jan. 21—with Escola perhaps resuming in the role after taking a recuperative break.

Oh, Mary! without Cole Escola? As it turns out, yes. The Broadway hit comedy, which recently became the first production of the season to recoup its production cost, will have a new Mary Todd Lincoln beginning January 21 when Glow actor Betty Gilpin will take over the role for a limited 8-week engagement.

“GLOW” actor Betty Gilpin is replacing Cole Escola in “Oh, Mary!” on Broadway. Escola, who wrote and starred in the deranged comedy since it debuted Off Broadway in January, is departing in early 2025.

It’s hard to imagine anyone but Escola in the lead role of Oh, Mary! The play is a fictionalized version of the life of Mary Todd Lincoln, who feels oppressed and neglected in her life as the wife of President Abraham Lincoln and dreams of returning to the stage as a cabaret star.

Three-time Emmy Award nominee Betty Gilpin will take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln for an eight-week limited engagement from Jan. 21 through March 16, 2025. Gilpin will succeed playwright Cole Escola, who will exit the comedy at the Lyceum Theatre on Jan. 19.
