Afghanistan's Taliban government announced the release of two Americans in a prisoner exchange. The family of Ryan Corbett says he's one of them.

A prisoner swap between the United States and Afghanistan’s Taliban freed two Americans in exchange for a Taliban figure imprisoned for life in California on drug trafficking and terrorism charges, officials said Tuesday.

Ryan Corbett, an American held in Afghanistan since 2022, has been released from Taliban custody, his family said.

The Taliban had confirmed they were holding Ryan Corbett, who was arrested in August 2022 and whom the State Department had classified as wrongfully detained.

The deal was struck for Khan Mohammad, a member of the Taliban serving two life sentences in a U.S. prison on 'narco-terrorism charges.'
