The National Christmas Tree, adorned with thousands of lights and unique decorations on the White House Ellipse, will be lit on Thursday night – and longtime Washingtonians know that means road closures in downtown D.

The First Lady’s all-black outfit and the president’s glowering, bloody portraits give the White House Christmas decorations an ominous vibe.

It took 150 volunteers working for one week, with 25,000 feet of ribbon, 120 pounds of gingerbread, more than 10,000 butterflies and a 6,000-piece Lego portrait of President Donald Trump’s likeness to deck the White House halls this year.

Every year, the first lady — regardless of whether the president is a Republican or Democrat — enjoys the annual tradition of transforming the White House into a winter wonderland.
