Early Monday morning, Whiteside County sent out an alert to residents urging people to avoid outdoor burning because of those extremely dry conditions.
A Thursday update from the U.S. Drought Monitor showed Oxford, Franklin, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Waldo, Hancock, and Washington counties in "extreme drought," consistent with the last update from Sept. 25. However, additional areas in Washington County are dryer, with the entire southern region now in the "extreme" drought category.
