Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season is already upon us and the Sunday slate will wrap up with the Atlanta Falcons heading west to visit the San Francisco 49ers at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.

With the 49ers flying in the league under Jones' offensive leadership, rumors have started of a potential dilemma in the quarterback room. NFL insider Grant Cohn is among the people who believe the 49ers are better off with Jones as QB1, as he gives the team a "new identity" with his passing game.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said Mac Jones will step into the starting quarterback role again against Atlanta as Brock Purdy's return from a toe ailment will have to wait at least another week.

Mac Jones is working hard to get on the field for the 49ers' showdown Sunday against the Bucs. The San Francisco quarterback, and likely starter, is listed as questionable with an oblique injury.

Mac Jones has quickly become one of the most talked-about players in football, and for all the right reasons. After Brock Purdy’s injury, the former Patriots first-round pick stepped in for the San Francisco 49ers and hasn’t missed a beat.

While they're winning and producing gaudy numbers, the injuries have started to pile up. Brock Purdy has already missed three games with a toe injury, and backup Mac Jones has been wearing a brace on his knee along with a litany of other ailments.
