3D TVs could be about to make a big comeback — here's how - MSN
Samsung's next innovation: a 3D OLED TV Integrating the 3D screen technology on a more conventional display wouldn't be easy, but if any manufacturer could make it happen it would be Samsung.
Using Acer's proprietary hardware-software solution, SpatialLabs, the monitors can convert 2D content, like supported games, photos, and CAD designs, into stereoscopic 3D.
But for those who make that programming, the biggest challenge of all may be simultaneously producing 2D versions of the same shows. In order to film in 3D, two normal cameras are placed side by side.
While some models, such as Toshiba’s Cell TV, promise 2D to 3D upscaling, which converts traditional images into three-dimensional ones, that technology is expected to cost a pretty penny.
