Hungary's two main political parties are using a national holiday on Thursday to rally supporters in Budapest.

A former ally of the authoritarian prime minister is leading in the polls as an election with huge implications for Europe and the war in Ukraine looms.

“It transcends the trenches of right and left. It is a source of pride for all of us,” the prime minister wrote on his social media page. PM Orban also noted that, at the same time in Budapest, another gathering was held to protest against intimidation.
