Santa Anas are dry, warm and gusty northeast winds that blow from the interior of Southern California toward the coast and offshore, moving in the opposite direction of the normal onshore flow that carries moist air from the Pacific into the region.
Prior to the urbanization of Southern California, rainbow and steelhead trout were native to these waterways and they were a source of food for the Native American tribes and early settlers in the region. In contrast, brook and brown trout are not native to California and were introduced to the state in the late 1800s.
