Amazon's cloud services unit AWS was recovering on Monday from a widespread outage that knocked out thousands of websites along with some of the world's most popular apps — including Snapchat and Reddit — and disrupted businesses globally.
Services including HMRC have all reported issues, while some banks such as Barclays, Lloyds and the Bank of Scotland have also been affected. Monitoring site Downdetector recorded thousands of outage reports from users, indicating a widespread problem.
Multiple online platforms including Amazon’s cloud unit AWS, Robinhood , Snapchat and Perplexity were down today, Downdetector says, while the CEO of Perplexity says the root cause was an AWS issue. Amazon.com, PrimeVideo and Alexa were all facing issues, according to Downdetector.
