An official of the JN Ray Hospital in north Kolkata said the decision was forced by insults meted out to the Indian flag by Bangladeshi nationals.

Kolkata’s JN Ray Hospital has decided to stop treating Bangladeshi patients indefinitely following anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh. In Chattogram, cases of a series of attacks on Hindu temples were reported.

Subhranshu Bhakta, the hospital's director, explained that while medical care is a noble profession, the dignity of the nation takes precedence.

This decision coincided with India's call for a "fair and transparent trial" for Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was recently arrested on treason charges in Bangladesh. On Friday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed India's concerns over attacks on Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh.

The hospital official urged other city hospitals to follow the same step as a sign of protest against the alleged atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh.

The director of J N Roy Hospital in Maniktala said that the hospital has decided to stop providing all medical services to patients from Bangladesh for now.
