FIFA's $1 billion prize fund for its 2025 Club World Cup could give its winning teams a huge boost and makes the tournament far more lucrative than preseason friendlies.

FIFA promised $1 billion in total prize money Wednesday to the 32 teams playing at the men’s Club World Cup in the United States. The long-awaited confirmation just over three months before the opening game in Miami follows a broadcast deal belatedly being agreed with streaming service DAZN backed by Saudi Arabian money.

FIFA has confirmed that the Women's Club World Cup will be delayed to 2028 and has introduced the new Women's Champions Cup tournament for 2026.

It has been 25 years since the first incarnation of the competition began, as Brazilian side Corinthians became the inaugural winners of what was then called the FIFA Club World Championship. Since then, Real Madrid have set the bar, lifting the trophy five times, while four English clubs have been victorious in the competition.
