A man thought to be a citizen of Bangladesh was arrested in India's financial capital Mumbai on Sunday and is considered the prime suspect in the stabbing of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, police said.

Thane: In the case of the Saif Ali Khan attack, the intruder Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Amin Fakir, alias Binoy Das, 30, who hails from Bangladesh, was arrested early Sunday in the MMRDA metro labour colony in the Kasarwadavli area of Thane.

During interrogation, Shehzad disclosed that he had scoped out Saif Ali Khan's house in the 12-storey building, Satguru Sharan, and Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat, among many others.

The attacker, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, who had changed his name to Vijay Das, allegedly carried out the violent attack on Khan inside his Bandra apartment on Thursday.

Mumbai Police caught Saif Ali Khan's attacker, who stabbed him six times at his Bandra residence on Thursday in an alleged robbery attempt, on Sunday nearby Thane city and taken into 5 days of Police custody.

Saif Ali Khan was stabbed during a burglary attempt in his Bandra apartment. The attacker, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a Bangladeshi national posing as Vijay Das, was arrested.
