Train service linking Orange and San Diego counties will once again be halted — this time for an estimated six weeks — as crews attempt to reinforce a particularly unstable section of the coastline in San Clemente.

Landslides and the shifting railroad bed beneath the tracks just north of Camp Pendleton have stopped passenger service through San Clemente for months at a time in recent years. OCTA officials said the area remains unstable and urgent action is needed to prevent further interruptions.

The approximately six-week closure of Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train service allows crews to safely and efficiently conduct emergency repairs.
