Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday secured European Parliament backing for her new team at the European Commission, paving the way for her to take office at the start of next month amid mounting challenges in Europe and across the Atlantic.

The European Parliament on Wednesday backed the new European Commission in a majority vote. The team of 26 commissioners is to start work on December 1 under the leadership of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen,

370 members of the European Parliament voted on Wednesday in favor of the new right-leaning group of 26 commissioners (27 in total including von der Leyen; one from each country in the bloc) to start a five-year term from Dec. 1. 282 MEPs voted against and 36 abstained.
