Sam Hauser left Monday’s Celtics game against the Detroit Pistons with an ankle sprain and is questionable to return.

BOSTON — Sam Hauser checked himself out of the Celtics’ game against the Pistons on Monday. He was downgraded on the injury report to questionable to return due to a left ankle sprain. Hauser had played four minutes before exiting the game,

The Detroit Pistons have won five of their last six matchups, most recently defeating the Atlanta Hawks 142-115 at home last Friday. It was the team’s largest win of the season, and the bench scored a season-high 77 points in the win. 12 players scored at least 7 points, making the Pistons the third team in NBA history to accomplish that feat.

BOSTON — The Celtics battled the Pistons in another close game as the East rivals have had some high-stakes finishes already this season. But in the end, the C’s didn’t have enough as they lost 112-105 to the Pistons on Monday at TD Garden.

Thanks to Brown's big half, the Celtics took a 57-53 lead into halftime, but they fell behind late and couldn't catch the Pistons.

Celtics star Jaylen Brown dubbed Isaiah Stewart, one of the new-age "Bad Boy" Pistons, a "nice guy" after Boston lost to Detroit.

Boston hit five of its first 11 attempts and led by as many as 12 early in the second quarter. The hit five attempts the remainder of the game, missing 28. The Pistons not only won the three-point battle (36% to 25%), they won the turnover battle (10 to 12), on the boards (59 to 49), and second-chance points (16 to eight).
