The Menlo Park, California-based firm said Wednesday it will launch a test in Germany, France and the US that will enable “buyers to browse listings from eBay directly on Facebook Marketplace while completing their transaction on eBay.”

STOCKHOLM >> Meta said today it would launch a test in Germany, France and the United States that will enable buyers to browse listings from eBay on Facebook Marketplace and then complete their transactions on eBay.
Shares of eBay are up more than 8% at the opening bell on the NYSE. The move comes as a remedy response to the European Commission's decision from mid-November last year when it ruled that the social media giant's classified ads offering was hindering competition for online rivals.
The social media company said it's launching a test that will let Facebook users in Germany, France, and the U.S. browse eBay listings directly on its Marketplace service but will still have to complete the transaction on eBay.
The test, which is being launched to a small group in Germany, France, and the U.S. starting Wednesday, is an attempt to resolve charges by the European Union that the social media giant uses anticompetitive behavior.

Shares of eBay climbed Wednesday after Meta Platforms said it would let users browse eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace amid pressure from the European Union. The stock was up 11% to $70.33. Shares have risen 65% over the past 12 months.
Bay’s stock ended Wednesday’s trading session up 9% after Meta announced that it will permit certain listings to appear on Facebook Marketplace, its well-known platform that links customers for local item pickups and other services.
