UNION CITY, Ga. — A man says it was like a nightmare when he woke up and found smoke seeping into his apartment in Union City. His building at the Evergreen Commons apartments caught fire at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, sending tenants running to safety.

UNION CITY, Ga. — A fire destroyed a Union City apartment complex on Tuesday morning, according to the fire department. Crews were dispatched just after 9 a.m. on Jonesboro Road at the Evergreen Commons apartments. Union City Fire Chief Joe Maddox said the apartments were "gutted" due to water damage on the top floor.
