Merrill Cook dies; anti-tax maverick represented Utah in Congress for two terms

Merrill Cook, a firebrand politician who often clashed with fellow Utah Republicans, died March 9 at age 79. Cook lost several elections but won two terms in the U.S. House, serving from 1997 to 2001.
