Every Oregon school district will have to adopt a policy prohibiting student cellphone use by Oct. 31. The policies must be in full effect by 2026.

The governor had indicated she would ban phones in schools when a bill that would have done the same thing died in the Oregon Legislature.

Cellphones will be banned at Texas schools starting Sept. 1 under a new bill signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott. House Bill 1481, which is now law, requires all public and charter schools to prohibit the use of personal communication devices during instructional hours, with limited exceptions.
