Reliance Retail has launched an app in India to sell fashionwear from China's Shein under a licensing deal, almost five years since Shein's app was banned in the country after getting caught up in a diplomatic tussle.

Shein has partnered with Reliance Retail, owned by Mukesh Ambani. The Shein India Fast Fashion app is now accessible on both Google Play Store and Apples App Store.

Shein, the Chinese fast-fashion brand, returns to India after a five-year ban, partnering with Reliance Retail. This deal ensures data security with all customer data stored in India, addressing previous security concerns.

Shein India is now operated and managed by Isha Ambani-led Reliance Retail, which already runs the fashion e-commerce platform Ajio and offline outlets under Reliance Trends

The app is available on Android and iOS, initially catering to customers in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, with a nationwide rollout planned soon.

Shein was among several Chinese apps banned by the Indian government in 2020 due to concerns over data security and national interest.
