Grok, the artificial intelligence assistant built into social media platform X, got its own image generation model over the weekend — but in a few hours, it was gone. Named Aurora, the new model seemed to be particularly impressive at generating realistic-looking images of people and animals.

Elon Musk's xAI artificial intelligence company on Saturday rolled out a free beta version of its Aurora image generator, capable of producing photo-realistic pictures upon request.

ET: X today formally announced its Aurora image generator. "Grok's new capabilities are now available on the X platform in select countries and will roll out to all users within a week," the company said in a blog post.

X, Elon Musk’s social network formerly known as Twitter, launched and quickly removed a new image generator called Aurora over the weekend. The tool, integrated into Grok, X’s AI chatbot, appeared briefly on Saturday as part of the “Grok 2 + Aurora (beta)” model selection.
