A preliminary investigation by the MNPD showed the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck slowed down for traffic due to an upcoming construction zone on Interstate 40 East near McCrory Lane at about 9:15 a.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol officer shot a driver they were chasing when the two exchanged gunfire at Interstate 40 and Watt Road. Special Agent Jason Pack, a spokesman for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, wrote in a statement that troopers were pursuing the driver on Jan. 12 when the driver crashed at the Watt Road exit.
