AAA expects record-breaking number of travelers for year-end holidays
Much like Thanksgiving, holiday travel through the year-end holidays is expected to be record-breaking. AAA projects 119.3 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home between Dec. 21 and Jan. 1, which is about 64,000 more than the current record set in 2019.

AAA predicts 6 million Illinois residents will travel at least 50 miles away from home during the holiday season. That is 117,633 more people than the previous record. According to AAA, consumer spending has risen nearly 5% as inflation has gone down and employment has gone up, contributing to the larger number of travelers this year.
