DALLAS — An 18-year-old has been arrested on a murder charge in the 2024 shooting death of another teen, according to the Dallas Police Department. Jose Fuentesaguero was named the suspect in an update from police Wednesday, according to a news release. He was already in the Dallas County Jail on unrelated charges, police said.

Dallas police said in a Tuesday news release that they arrested Dequnta Shannon in connection with the case. Shannon was in custody at Dallas County jail as of Tuesday night, according to online records. It’s not immediately clear if he has an attorney.

Dallas police confirmed there was no active shooter after an incident in Downtown Dallas near the Omni Hotel and Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Saturday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the 2600 block of The Mall, according to the Dallas Police Department. Police said at that scene, they found a person who had been shot. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the shooting victim to the hospital, where they died, DPD confirmed.

"The preliminary investigation determined a fight between two people led to multiple poles being knocked down, which caused a loud noise. This noise contributed to panic inside the building, prompting people to rush outside in a stampede.
