British Airways is taking its first class to a new level of luxury. It's a trend among other airlines like Lufthansa and Qantas, unlike US carriers.

British Airways plans to introduce a new first class on its Airbus SE A380 double-deckers in mid 2026, betting that the most expensive seats at the front of the aircraft still have a place in the cabin even as business class berths become more luxurious.

British Airways has unveiled a new first-class seat which it claims “pushes the boundaries of comfort”. The seat has been designed to provide passengers with a “modern luxury hotel feel”, the airline said. It is wider than existing seats in its most premium cabin at 36.5in (92.7cm), and longer when converted into a fully flat bed at 6ft 6in.

Yesterday, British Airways unveiled its new First seat, featuring a modern design and British craftsmanship. The airline designed the seat to feel like a luxury hotel, along with unique British elements and home-like comforts.

Though it’s previously been slightly harder to access with less frequent flights, British Airways has just launched three new routes from London to Italy – and one of them ticks off the underrated Adriatic Riviera.
