The confirmed death toll from last week's massive earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 3,455, as U.N. agencies and foreign aid donors ramp up their emergency relief efforts.

As the road shook beneath him, Ko Zeyer sped past crumbled buildings, buckled roads and gaping sinkholes toward his hometown of Sagaing, the epicenter of the most powerful earthquake to hit Myanmar in a century.

Aid groups in the worst-hit areas of Myanmar said there was an urgent need for shelter, food and water after an earthquake that killed more than 2,700 people.
