TikTok on Monday asked a federal appeals court to bar the Biden administration from enforcing a law that could lead to a ban on the popular platform until the Supreme Court reviews the case.

The Justice Department late on Wednesday asked a U.S. appeals court to reject an emergency bid by TikTok to temporarily block a law that would require its Chinese parent company ByteDance to divest the short-video app by Jan.

The law requires TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance to divest its stakes in the social media company or face a ban. TikTok has said it will shut down by Jan. 19 if the law is not declared unconstitutional.
