AAA also is projecting a record number of air travelers this holiday season: 7.85 million. Last year was the previous record, with 7.5 million air travelers. Flights are more expensive this holiday season compared to last, AAA found. On average, domestic tickets are $830, up 4%, and international tickets are $1,630, up 13%.

During the year-end holiday stretch, almost 120 million people will travel at least 50 miles from their homes, AAA said.
