Volkswagen has recalled more than 177,400 vehicles because the engine cover could come loose and come into contact with hot surfaces. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that if the engine cover does touch a hot surface it could melt and cause a fire. The recall affects some 2024 and 2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles.

It’s estimated that around 177,000 vehicles are potentially affected, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, Volkswagen estimated that only 1% of the 177,493 vehicles have the defect that can lead to an engine fire.
