Starting Tuesday, your wallets will start to feel a bit of a squeeze as the six-cent gas tax increase kicks in.

The state has added an extra 6 cents per gallon, starting July 1, keeping Washington's gas prices among the highest in the U.S.

Lawmakers considered other ways to fund the state's megaprojects, highway maintenance and ferries, but stuck with the gas tax because of its low overhead.
