How Big Do Zebra Sharks Get? Exploring the Size and Growth of These Fascinating Creatures

A baby zebra shark (Stegostoma tigrinum) hatching from its eggshell 🐣Some sharks give birth to live young. Others, like the zebra shark, lay eggs. Female zebra sharks release these ‘leathery’ egg cases which they securely anchor to the seafloor. The egg cases are quite large - about 17cm in size - and contain everything the pup needs to develop and grow over the next 6 to 9 months before hatching. It’s feeding time for our zebra sharks! Our tarpon (who fun fact, is original to the Scott Aquarium) and Queensland grouper even swung on by for a bite to eat, too.
