Sixty years ago this Sunday, an incredible rescue took place by RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat in Anglesey. Braving hurricane-force winds, a makeshift crew of volunteers, including one shore helper who’d never been out on a lifeboat before, successfully rescued those onboard the ship Hindlea before it was smashed on the rocks. Every year, around 1,200 lifeboat crew members train at the RNLI College in Poole, Dorset. The state-of-the-art Sea Survival Centre there gives them practical experience in sea safety and survival techniques.
