In the late 1930's, everyone dreamed of modern technology. Nearly everything in this 1939 Chuck Jones cartoon exists now: Automatic pet feeders, automatic floor sweepers, automatic dishwashers, and automatic music systems. But somehow, the way they're imagined here is far more fun. From "Dog Gone Modern" (Chuck Jones, 1939) | GoldenAgeCartoons.com

The 1966 animated special was a collaboration between director Chuck Jones and author Dr. Seuss, who had previously worked together on World War II training cartoons. Jones approached a reluctant Dr. Seuss about adapting the book, and after a collaborative two-month process of storyboarding (real production cels featured in this video), they sold the special to a sponsor. Jones’s direction and the creative team’s attention to detail, including using Boris Karloff for narration and the Grinch’s v

Chuck Jones was not particularly fond or proud of his earliest directorial efforts. He did, however , cite a particular moment as something of a "breakthrough". As America was just entering World War II, many young men were drafted into the armed forces, and others enthusiastically enlisted. In "The Draft Horse", a plowhorse sees an Army recruitment billboard advertising the need for horses for the war effort. The extremely patriotic and enthusiastic horse rushes to offer his services, giving a

Here's a fun early Chuck Jones cartoon, brought to you in its entirety courtesy of the public domain! "Fin N' Catty" (Chuck Jones, 1943) features a cat character who also appeared in "The Aristo-Cat" the same year, and eventually evolved into the more familiar Jones feline, Claude. | GoldenAgeCartoons.com

In "Bedtime For Sniffles" (1940), Sniffles the mouse attempts to stay up late on Christmas Eve to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. This scene, where he drinks coffee and dances to the radio, is one of the most elegant pieces of animation done in a Warner Bros. cartoon. The sole credited animator on this cartoon is Robert Cannon, although Ken Harris, Rudy Larriva, and Phil Monroe were also animators in Chuck Jones' unit at the time. We'll leave it up to our friends and readers good at identifying

Chuck Jones never intended for this memorable scene to make people cry, and was surprised to find that it did. Marc Anthony, the bulldog, adopts a cute kitten, Pussyfoot, and attempts to hide it from his owner, a housewife voiced by Bea Benaderet. He hides his feline friend in a kitchen flour bin, not realizing that his owner is about to bake a batch of cookies, unknowingly scooping the kitty up. Marc Anthony's attempts to rescue Pussyfoot fail, and he's devastated by the thought of him being ba

"Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur" (Chuck Jones, 1939) was the sixth cartoon to feature Daffy Duck, the third in color, and the first directed by Chuck Jones. At the time, Jones was new to directing, and his style was much slower paced and more influenced by Disney than the other Warner Bros. directors. It's interesting to see a gag involving speed and wild expressions in one of his earliest films, years before these elements became synonymous with his best work. Vintage Cartoon Hub on Instagram: "🎬 To Itch His Own (1958) is a classic Chuck Jones-directed Looney Tunes cartoon where Mighty Angelo, a strong circus flea, takes a vacation on a meek dog and defends it from a bullying bulldog named Butcher, using his superhuman strength to pummel the bulldog unseen until Butcher is taken away by a dogcatcher, framed by Angelo. The story follows Mighty Angelo, a muscular strongman flea from “Norbet’s Flea Circus” who decides he is overworked and needs a vacati
