Over 110mm of rain has fallen since this morning in nearby Hoekwil and it's the rain is still coming down. We have also received a few reports of around 90mm in Wilderness Heights on the same day. A follower sent us this viral video of the fire in Vakansieplaas, Mossel Bay this evening (6 Jan 2026). According to an earlier update from Mossel Bay Municipality, residents in Island View, Vakansieplaas, and Aalwyndal are being evacuated after vegetation fires spread into the Aalwyndal area earlier this afternoon under strong wind conditions.
